edition2

My friends.. Whats up guys?? How are you?? Must have been fine... Minors are over... :) .. You had an awesome Utkansh, Yes,Yes, Yes.. Utkansh ver 5.0.. The annual cultural fest of NIT-J where participants from more than 300 colleges all over India participate.[ This is what the 5th slide of Utkansh's presentation said.]

I am back again this time with a post Utkansh edition. For those who did not read the 1st edition visit http://failfeednitj.blogspot.com

18th March 2010- Opening Ceremony & Folknite

Well begun is half done, this is the thought that must have been running through Team Utkansh's mind before the fest, but wonder what they must have been thinking when the complete opposite happened (Crap start leading to farts :D).. The opening ceremony had everything beyond expectations: school children performing kind of Jagrata. The Folk Nite somehow was better and even in that the road to make it to the top 3 was tough indeed as there were 4 teams participating only...:P

19th March 2010

Prom- Prom Eve to Prom Afternoon still it somehow was a success. The organizers were the ones who had all the options open for the venue. GYM, Area enclosed by L3,L4,D3,D4, CC etc…Somehow by hook or by crook CC was decided as the venue. It was decorated as if some wedding was going to take place...the saving grace being that the couples enjoyed some privacy away from prying eyes.

Glam Nite-Had the most extreme participation, going from worst to best. Choreo on the theme ' Proposals' was something one should not have missed, not because it was good but I bet you can't find anything worse. One would have preferred to attend Bio lectures rather than attending that choreo performed by students of Rayat . (You all know how we Engineers feel about attending Bio lectures)... Fashion Show on the theme “ Women Empowerment”, was something one cherished and so was the case with the Choreo “ Transformers” by Punjabi University students. One wondered that since when our institute had such beautiful girls.

20th March 2010

Dandia was an event in which one could make money just by being an organizer, 70/- stag entry and 100/- couple entry. Around 80 couples and 120 stag entries. Investment 4000/- DJ and 4000/- other expenses, rest you are good at maths (even star students like me are good when it comes to calculations ).... I bet they had a good cold drink party after it :D , and you guys deserved it one of the rare events at Utkansh that tasted success.

Kavi Sammelan- It was something all cherished because they didn't have anything else to do. Gajendra Solanki brought smiles on the faces of students which were lost watching the other events at Utkansh.

Magic Show- The idea was copied from 'Techniti- 09' so were the performances by Mr. James. All cheer he got at Techniti changed to yawns at Utkansh. I wish it was mentioned that this was going to be an exclusive performance for 1st year students as we got to see the same old tricks..the only thing that was different was an attempt by Mr. James to connect with his audience by singing: “All izz Well”.. but I heard that too was a little under appreciated due to lack of Taal and Sur in his performance. I wonder why 70000 was given to him to perform ...

21st March 2010

Closing- Students from a school of age group 8-12 performing Karate...What was Team Utkansh thinking?? Why were school students performing at a college fest... and that too Karate at a culture fest?? Were there no willing candidates from our college or were the students so crazy about performing on the stage of NIT-J?? I hope it was the latter because none of the students of our institute do seem to appreciate what the institute has done for them.

Star Nite- Euphoria was mentioned on the website till 10th March. But due to lack of funds it was our one and only the Aahun Aahun Guy- Master Saleem. The proposed venue shifted from OAT to Football Ground [ the reason given by Team Utkansh, was that a huge crowd was expected.] The final venue was the backside of CSH. The Star Nite lived upto its expectations, the entire Utkansh did- sleep inducing and frankly speaking nauseating, which led to large number of boys not being a part of it..no surprise the sitting arrangement somehow excluded boys from it.. but somehow some boys appreciated that as according to them it made leaving easier..leave to where u may ask, well to the numerous cold drink parties organized to commemorate the “successful holidays”.

Somethings Worth Appreciating-

Some of you may find this boring, but some students really did work hard and they shouldn't go without mention.

 Bhangra on Folk Nite by Gurpreet and Mandeep that grabbed 1st position.
 Gidda grabbing first position in Bhangra- Giddha Competition.. The team lead by Prabhjot, Mankiran and Ashmina.
 Fashion Show on Women Empowerment lead by Sonam Maa'm and Bhanu Maa'm, really well done..
 Choreo led by Sanjay that grabbed the 1st position.
 Vaibhav Monga [The Stud of NIT-J... as his facebook fanpage says] and his partner who won the Sur and Saaz competition.
 Rahul and Harsimranjit of 1st yr who won the Two-2-Tango competition..Nice Job..
 Girls roaming around the campus in skirts at Utkansh.. “Yeh Nazare roz kyon nahi milte” heard on the lips of many boys..
 Fashion show based on Sikhism was performed by THE TURBANATORS on 20th March’2010. It was the first ever fashion show based on such a theme all over the world. It told us how far have Sikhs reached as far as the success was concerned- From S.Manmohan Singh to Harbhajan Singh it had all. All credit goes to the participants and Amrit Pal Singh, Gurpreet Singh Sidhu and Mittar Pal Singh of 2nd year who came up with this great idea. It was a great effort indeed. If anyone of you missed it, you can watch the video on youtube.com.

Students Feedback Committee

The 2nd meeting ever held was after a span of 6 months, I guess the administration really values our feedback , maybe it was taking time to implement all that was decided in the 1st meeting....Members however are working real hard and trying to see if they can negotiate a better experience for those who have entered this hallow portal of engineering education. The most noteworthy point that came out from the latest meeting:
 The convenor won't be decided by the faculty.. That sounds interesting after the “ huge success” of Utkansh-10..:P

31st March 2010

For many grown-ups a tense day of annual closing, where with the end of the fiscal year all your accounts and taxes have to be straight..But here at NIT-J this is one of the many much awaited days in the year...Why you ask??.. Well this is known in NIT-J folkore as the COLD DRINK DAY...celebrated @ Heaven on Earth.. get fizzy, get tizzy, and do all those things you wish u did, but never had the guts to do... all at unbelievable prices that make you wanna say Yeh Dil Mange Moreeee..hic :D . With people saving and spending grands on this occasion.. I hope none rues their burnt pockets....

Articles in Punjab Kesari

Our college rarely seems to be in the news for its achievements, we have our sporting teams who do us proud and our high placements, but it seems all the wrong things come to light. I think you can judge for yourself how much of truth is there in the articles....

April 10th 2010-
An Article regarding the decaying state of our Hostel Mess, it reported how unhygienic the storage conditions were, the general disarray in the provisions, lack of cleanliness in dining area and taste of food..

April 11th 2010-
Article regarding the the empty bookshelfs in the issue section of our library, and how an automation system that was purchased 2-3 yrs ago is yet to be implemented. It also stated how a part of the library is A.C when the college receives so many grants....

April 12th 2010-
Article regarding how our teachers take home on an average Rs 3500 to Rs 4000 per period, since they dont teach the full quota of periods..how some of them spend really less time teaching and more time eating free lunches at the Guest House.. and plus how some teachers were promoted without being PhDs...

A general reaction echoed by the student population in the light of these revelations is : “Yaar Mess ka Khanna toh hum kahan khaate the..Amrit Dhaba Zindabad, aur yeh Library toh minors ke waqt hi jana padta hai, par yeh teachers se pange leke galat kiya.....”

The 'K' Episode
[Kab Kisne Kya Kaha]

 “300 Rs bhi leli Utkansh mein part lene ki.. aur cash prize bhi nahi diya.. bas ek tuti se trophy pakda di thi”.. - Runner Up of Voice of Utkansh from DAVIET
 “Mera Bus ek 1100 ka Joota bika hai.. Merko kya pata tha ki tumhare NIT hone ke baad bhi fest par curfew hoga.. Itni buri halat toh General Curfew wale din bhi nahi the..” - a random dialogue by Addidas sponsors on the last day.
 “Kal Christopher James ne toh accha wala sulaya.. literally bore kia.. sab same performances jo Techniti pe the.. I hope aaj Saleem kuch kar jaya accha.”. - A 2nd yr girl telling this to her friend who had spent Rs 300/- only just to participate in INFERNO..
 “Shukar hai Utkansh khatam hai.... Saleem ji toh James se bhi do kadam aage nikle... I wish I had gone back home..” – Girls at D. S on 22nd March
 “ Oye Utkansh ki website dekh..schedule to be announced soon” – a message to editor of failure’s feedback on 19th March’s evening..:P
 “Ladkiyon ko kya ho gaya tha...Sab skirts mein ghoom rahi hain.. Jo nahi bhi sunder lagti thi.. Aaj toh who bhi...” - An incomplete dialogue from a Mech Guy..
 “Main Prom pe achi lag rahi thi na.. Mera naya gown jo tha of course...” - Best Dressed Girl at Prom talking with her friends even 15 days after Utkansh :P.
Quote of the Month:
1. Engineer who hai jise lecture mein Katrina Kaif ke khayal aate hain.. IPL ke match dekhte waqt Assignment ke sawaal yaad aate hain.. Mess mein ghar ke khaane ki yaad aati hai..Exam se pehli raat syllabus yaad aata hai..Practical mein lkuch nahi aane pe bhi pass hone ka andaaz aata hai..Bunk karte waqt class mein samaan bhool aata hai par pakda fir bhi nahi jata hai..Attendence se zyada proxy mein vishwas dikhata hai aur placement ke khyaal mein zindagi ke 4 saal barbaad karwata hai...

2. Law of Conservation of knowledge applicable in NIT-J: According to this law, knowledge before the lecture and after the lecture always remains constant....;-)

1st Edition

Hi friends. I read the 1st edition of high five and the way Grapevine
guys answered to it. Then came an edition of Conflicting Emotions by a
confused observer (as he himself wrote it) which tried to publicize
Utkansh’10 the best it could. So, I came up with an idea of writing
something too. This one is neither to criticize anyone nor to blame
anyone. Its just an attempt to make you aware of the latest
happenings.

NITJ- one of the top 20 engineering colleges in India. Is it ?? How
old is that story?? What makes us call it as the prestigious
institute?? I guess none of us has an answer to it.

When I got admission here in 20__, my friends and relatives asked me
Where did I get admission.. I being a proud student with my head held
high answered by saying NIT Jalandhar.. I had never felt so much
embarrassed ever before when I was further questioned “Lovely mein
admission nahi mili??”.. Welcome my dear friends and juniors. This is
NITJ for you…….!!!

Definition of NITJ-
We define it differently to everyone.
To a businessman- “Amritsar ke raaste mein bidhipur faatak se 500 mts
pehle ek college hai. Wo mera college hai.”
To the drivers of local means of transport- “Aara ke paas jo college
hai, wahan jana hai”.
And to someone who had once attempted AIEEE exam and failed luckily
(you know why :P) we say – “ Main REC mein padhta hoon.”
Its just in our Institute that we can use the term NIT.

General definition –
· “An institute where number of rules and regulations are more than
the number of students and where one gets to know about them when
someone breaks it.”
· “An institute where even the Lab Assistants consider themselves to
be no less than the Respected Director.”

The only good thing that happens here are weekends. Yes, it is. You
will understand it once you get the status of a “STAR” STUDENT.

Annual Fests-

TechNITi 09 was a huge success and so was the post-TechNITi event
named as Protest 09. Many year and semester backs were at the stake so
that something good could happen for the present batches and the ones
yet to come. That of course did not happen.

Utkansh-ver 5.0-
Do I need to write or say anything about this much much awaited fest..
I guess YES (so that students atleast get an idea about what it is)..
Confusion is the key word here. From every member of Team Utkansh to
every single student who is observing it, there is only one question
on the lips- “Ye ho kya raha hai??”

A member of investigating team of Failure’s Feedback got some interesting news-
· Stalls which on Utkansh08 and Utkansh09 were given for Rs200 are
now being sold for Rs1500 (for the worst stall) to Rs 25000 for the
lucky 7 stall.
· From Prom Night to Prom Eve to Prom Afternoon {yes , that is the
name :D} and now to Casino Masquerade (Couple Dance) , the name has
changed 4 times. Who knows what surprises are awaited out there.
· "If you bring a sponsor, you will get 10% of the amount you bring in
sponsorship..” How true was that?? It was not. The fact being if ABC
got the sponsorship through his links , the deal was signed by XYZ
member of Team Utkansh and in that way no student got even 1%.
· www.utkansh.org mentions the sponsors as Pizza sponsor (which should
have been Food partner), Coffee sponsor (which should have been
beverage partner) and the home page had Euphoria as the one coming for
StarNITe till 10th March though the deal was cancelled on 26th
February only. This last fact was observed by a very dear friend of
mine who is studying in PEC, ChandigarhJ

The grapevine said that Team Utkansh has 10.7 lakhs in hand including
mechandize.. It makes one think where is it being utilized if an
outsider is being charged Rs250 just to enter inside the institute.

The screening of Fashion shows and Choreographies was a bit
controversial too.. A Fashion show team FUSION which was not even in
waiting list went to IIT Roorkee and won 3rd prize + cash prize of Rs
40000 and a guy RAMANPREET got a contract of Rs 2.5 Lacs just to do
modeling for a certain brand.. This is Pre-Utkansh for you. Hope it
goes good. Goodluck guys. See you in the evening..

Some other latest happenings include 2nd year Inter-Branch cricket
tournament-Pitch Fever ( ‘P’ was further replaced by letter ‘B’ by
some creative minds). CSE and IPE emerged as the winners as the match
got tied. This tournament included only 4 teams from 2nd year and
M.Tech and 1st year were the other two teams. Some rules were even
made on the spot. The knock-out tournament was changed to a league
after the first match when the organizers lost it:D..Thats what
NITJians are good at-Jugaad

A first year mechanical guy got into controversies with a respected
teacher of our institute. He was late for his class and the teacher
did not allow him to enter. The next time the teacher was late and
that daring guy locked the door and said that “Mam, aap late ho. So
you are not allowed to enter..” Wow…Good going juniors.

It is a true fact that average NITJ boys lose their perception of
female beauty after spending time in campus. Huh…Lets hope that the
coming batch is better to some extent as now finally women have got
what they wanted..Reservation for themselves..Its their time to return
us the favor…Hoping to see beautiful girls in the college next year
..lol.. (I wish there was a beauty quota too :P)

The ‘K’ episode
( Kisne Kisko Kya Kaha )

1. “Even reimbursement not given to us, 10% to door ki baat”
- a member of sponsorship team.

2. “Suppli kismat wale ki aate hai”
- a senior consoling his junior when he got a ‘U’

3. “ Suppli ke 1500 ka jugaad kahan se kroon”
- one star student to another.

4. Police ka kaam hai gundon ko pakadna, teacher ka kaam hai
student ko pakadna
- a student was answered in this way when he went to seek
permission to
organize an event.

5. “Daviet walon ne Amrinder Gill bulaya tha, tum log wo bhi nahi bula sake??
Daviet ne entry 150 rakhi thi, aap logon ne central government college
mein ho ke 250 rakhi..”
- a student of Daviet to one of the members of the publicity team who
went there to publicize Utkansh.

6. “Main aapko dhamka nahi raha hoon, just ek sujhaav de raha hoon”
- dialogue of our respected faculty to students when they are running
short of attendance.

7. “ TechNITi to attend karne nahi diya..Ab ye Utkansh bhi pata nahi
kaise hoga..”
. some first year students at DS.

The best being-
8. “Aur bhai, Utkansh pe kahan ghoomne ja rahe ho”
- every second person of our institute J

Thought of the month-
“ To a pessimist, a glass is half empty….To an optimist, the glass is half full…
To an engineer, the glass is double than what it needs to be…”

* Thanks to everyone who helped me in writing this. Thanks to team
high five, grapevine and conflicting emotions who inspired me to write
one. Next Edition to be out after Utkansh..
